So I’ll cut right to the chase, the fashion industry just had an upgrade. WE’re finally getting more INCLUSIVE. One fashion line in particular really stood out to me as I read about all of the New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017 collections. Let me tell you about Chromat.
Chromat is a relatively new women’s swimwear line with lots of edge, and their SS17 “Hyperwave” line gave me A LOT OF LIFE. Not just because of the amazing fashion (slayage) but more because of all of the super unique and diverse models that were recruited for the show (more slayage)!
Chromat is an athletic style swimwear line heavily inspired by architecture. This season’s line was inspired and dedicated to women athletes like Simone Manuel (obvs), Serena Williams, and Gemma Weston to name a few. I just love it.
Now more about these models. We had all races, and I mean the lightest and darkest of these races too; no colorism here. And of every hair type under the rainbow was in attendance: 1A to 4C, ALL of the hair.
There were also women of every body type, shape, and size. The slender and plus sizes were included of course which these days are the more common model sizes, and that’s all good. BUT even the medium girls that look more like myself were in attendance! I lived for it.
But wait, there’s more. Can we talk about the amputee model with the beautiful metallic gold prosthetic?
And must we never forget that some very beautiful transgender women got to slay the runway just as hard as anyone else.
Oh and did I forget to mention the petite, pregnant, tattooed model who opened the show with contortionist moves? Talk about ability and body positivity.
Here is a quick video as well as photos from Chromat’s site of these gorgeous women:
